In the first California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) playoff match on Wednesday, Mira Costa boys beach volleyball team defeated the Oxnard High School Yellowjackets 3-0 at Dockweiler Beach without losing any sets.

Costa’s top performers were sophomore Dane Johnson with 10 kills and senior John Conde with approximately 15 kills. Partners Johnson and Conde won their sets 21-8 and 21-9, leading the Mustangs to victory. According to Conde, the team played tough but gave up easy points.

“The opponents we played were very tough but we allowed a lot of easy points that shouldn’t have been given up,” Conde said.

The Mustangs continue their playoffs on Saturday in Santa Monica. Costa’s current overall record moves to 10-1. According to Johnson, the team hopes to continue its dominance throughout further playoff rounds.

“I’m excited for the next round of playoffs,” Johnson said. “I feel like we have a good chance of winning our next game and making it into the late rounds of playoffs.”
