Mira Costa’s girls golf team defeated Palos Verdes High School Tuesday, 189-216, in its third Bay League game of the season. The Mustangs played at Chester Washington golf course and improved their Bay League record to 3-0.

Costa’s top golfers included junior Ashley Kim, who shot a 35, and senior Marni Murez, who shot a 36.

“Today, we could have definitely played better, but, nonetheless, we are happy to take home the win,” Kim said.
According to the players, the girls had a rough start but rallied together and pulled out a win against the Sea Kings, who Costa defeated last season.

“It was definitely not my best day,” senior Veronica Chen said. “When I don’t play to my fullest potential, it only makes me want to do better so that our team can continue our winning streak.”

According to Chen, the Mustangs kept their heads in the game and stayed focused despite Palos Verdes’ performance in the beginning of the game.

“Our team focused on our own games rather than letting the other school’s scores influence our mentality during the match,” Chen said.

According to coach Tom Cox, another key factor to the girls’ victory was the overall performance of Costa’s top-seeded players, Kim and Murez, who maintained low scores.

“This was a good win for the team, and we had strong performances from our top girls,” Cox said.
The girls (11-0 overall) play Palos Verdes again at Paradise Valley Community College Golf Course at 3:30 p.m. today.

“Our team is in good shape, and our team chemistry is great this year,” junior Andrea Lee said.
