The Manhattan Beach 43rd annual Hometown Fair was held on Oct. 3 and 4, with over 4,000 visitors and approximately 200 booths participating.
The Hometown Fair offers a variety of booths, including a range from Sandpipers to the Manhattan Beach Rotary Club.
“The Hometown Fair really is a weekend that helps the community comes together,” Hometown Fair Anne Kelly said. “A lot of alumni groups from Costa reunite and a lot of people who grew up in Manhattan Beach use this fair to meet with friends or people that they haven’t seen in awhile.”
The fair began on Oct. 3 with the 38th annual Hometown Fair 10k. Costa Choir members volunteered at the the 10k by passing out water. Costa’s track team and cross country members participated in the race.
“Manhattan Beach is gracious enough each year to Costa’s Choir department in letting us help and their contributions to our department help a lot,” Choir member sophomore Evalise Hall said.
Costa organizations such as Model United Nations, Drama, Cheer and other teams, clubs, and organizations had booths to raise money for their own club, class, or team.
“The goal of the MUN booth was to help pay for both Costa’s LAIMUN conference and the travel debates we attend and also part of the money we raise during our shift goes towards your individual travel expenses,” MUN student sophomore Liam Cook said.
Costa’s Drama Department and Cheer Team took part in the fair by doing face paint and coloring hair of kids attending the fair to raise money for their programs and equipment.
“We got the chance to work at the booth and help enrich the community,” Cheer member sophomore Vivian Shetland said. “It was really fun seeing all of the people at the fair come to our booth and see all the kids enjoying the booth.”
Mira Costa’s Dance Team performed on Oct 3 at the Joslyn Center to showcase their dances they have choreographed since the beginning of the school year. This performance is one of Dance Team’s biggest performances at the Joslyn Center during the Hometown Fair.
“Being able to perform at the Joslyn Center was a great way to showcase our work with the community and share what we are passionate for,” Dance Team member sophomore Mackensie Banchik said.
