“Gotham” surprises with dark and eerie atmosphere

“Gotham”, the setting of Fox’s, DC show is a city of hustle and bustle filled with villains and people trying to change the world.
“Gotham” catches the eye of viewers’ with abstract and complex characters, dark art design, and conflicting relationships all contributing to a very intricate plot.
The show follows GPD (Gotham Police Department) detective, James Gordon (Ben Mckenzie), as he cracks down on the crime in Gotham city with a brutal and relentless force, while an uncontrollable villain, The Penguin (Robin Taylor), tries to keep Gotham a center for crime.
The art design of the show has a somber tone adding to the mysterious plot of the show. Whenever an antagonist appears they are usually wearing black and grungy clothing, which help develop the darkness of “Gotham”. As a whole the settings throughout the show are dark and create a more dramatic and suspenseful feeling.
Characters in the show such as Gordon and The Penguin have different characteristics that appear realistically, adding to the overall authenticity of the show. With good/bad cop attitude of Gordon, it makes the show more enjoyable and relatable. Since The Penguin is so unpredictable and insane, it brings question to what will happen next.
Relationships between characters are complex and intriguing, which helps intensify the plot even further. Gordon and The Penguin’s relationship brings controversy because of how different the two are. It adds more suspense to the plot and the tension between them makes the show more entertaining.
With Complex characters and intriguing relationships between them, and dark setting, “Gotham” is a show full of twist and turns and is enjoyable to watch.
“Gotham” is on Monday nights at 10 o’clock on FOX.
