Mira Costa Principal Dr. Ben Dale and Costa’s vice principals hosted four-year planning workshops on Oct. 8 and Thursday in both the College and Career Center and Costa library to inform freshman parents of what to expect for their children’s four years at Costa.

Dale presented information regarding graduation requirements, including required courses and the college admission process.

“[Parents] can create individual plans that best represent the future each child wishes to pursue,” Costa Vice Principal Kristin Wolberg said. “[They] should obtain an understanding of the information to help their child plan their future.”

Following Dale’s presentation, vice principals led small workshop groups on this information that involved parent speakers and Costa counselors. During the group workshops, administrators discussed strategies to control academic loads and other challenges that high school students may encounter. The parent-led panels explained the scheduling process at Costa and reviewed courses offered at Costa.

“We want to make every parent aware of all of the courses available for the students to take over the years,” Parent Teacher Student Association President Sandi Gleason said.

Additional four-year planning workshops will also be held on Monday at 7 p.m. and 1 p.m., Oct. 27 at 7 p.m., Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. and Nov. 3 at 9 a.m. Parents can sign up for sessions on the school’s website under the News tab.

“[The workshop] gives students a chance to explore the different opportunities Costa has to offer,” Costa guidance counselor Jennifer Wildenberg said.
