Sarah Caamano replaced former English 9 and 10 College Prep teacher Andrea Cons-Diller, who resigned on Sept. 25.

Cons-Diller’s replacement Caamano, is a seventh and eighth grade English teacher at Manhattan Beach Middle School. Caamano taught sophomores, juniors and seniors English at Ocean View High School last year, in Huntington Beach. According to Shaw, her prior experience with high school students played a role in the decision to offer Caamano a job at Costa.

“I was pleasantly surprised to receive the call that Mira Costa would like for me to join their team,” Caamano said.  “As soon as I received the call, I was ready to embark on a new adventure with the Mustangs.”

According to Mira Costa Vice Principal Jon Shaw, Con-Diller’s resignation was abrupt and Costa administration had to quickly find Caamano as a replacement for Cons-Diller’s classes. Caamano was chosen because she was already part of the school district.

“I don’t know why she resigned, but we really want teachers who want to be here at Costa,” Shaw said. “Ms. Caamano is one of those teachers and she is happy and excited to be here and she is a great fit.”

Although Caamano was instated as a Costa employee on Oct. 1 to teach English 9 and 10 College Prep, she will only teach for part of each day at Costa until another instructor takes over her English classes at the middle school.

“I am heartbroken to be leaving my students at the middle school, but I know that I will enjoy the students at Mira Costa just as much,” Caamano said. “As for the future of my middle school students, I hope that they continue to be eager about learning.”

Although Caamano’s switch from MBMS to Costa was sudden, according to sophomore Jack Kittay, Caamano has made her transition to Costa seamless for her students. He says Caamano’s excitement to teach makes the class enjoyable.

“Mira Costa is such a great school, so it was a no-brainer that I would love to work here,” Caamano said. “ The students are intelligent and the staff is motivated to help the students succeed. Therefore, it was obvious that I would want to join the team.”
