Mira Costa’s girls tennis team lost to Penninsula 12-6 at Peninsula High School on Thursday in the team’s eighth Bay League match this season, with top performances by junior singles player Amy Gaal and junior doubles players Jacky Soliman and Maddie Giese.
Gaal started out slowly, losing her first game 6-4, but continued strong sweeping her last game 6-0. Soliman and Giese dominated their first game, winning 6-2 and continued to dominate throughout the match and won their last game 6-4.
“Peninsula is a very difficult tennis team to beat,” Gaal said. “Everyone on the team played exceptional games, and even though we lost the match, I am still proud of our team.”
The Mustangs are currently 6-2 in Bay League and 16-4 overall. The team’s next match is a non-Bay League match against Santa Barbara at Santa Barbara High School on Friday. According to junior tennis player Lena Nagy, the team is really striving for the win in Friday’s match.
“Although we have lost our last two matches, we went up against very challenging competition,” Nagy said. “Our team is very determined to keep up our record, and I am confident we will do great against Santa Barbara on Friday considering the skill our team possesses.”
