Mira Costa’s girls tennis team defeated Santa Barbara 16-2 at Santa Barbara High School on Friday in a non-Bay League match, with top performances by junior singles player Amy Gaal and junior doubles players Drew Waller and Lena Nagy.
Gaal swept the floor with the competition and won all three of her games 6-0. In Waller and Nagy’s first game, they edged out the competition and won 7-6. The duo dominated their next two games winning 6-1 and 6-0.
“Considering we lost our last two matches, it felt great to win,” Nagy said. “The energy on the court was great, and every player gave it their all to ensure our victory.”
The Mustangs are currently 6-2 in Bay League and 17-4 overall. The team’s next match is a non-Bay League match against Dos Pueblos at Dos Pueblos High School on Saturday. According to Gaal, the team in finally back in their stride and the team can’t wait to play on Saturday.
“Dos Pueblos is one of the easier teams to beat,” Gaal said. “Our coach prepares our team very well for every match, so the team will enter Saturday’s match confident and ready to play. ”
