Boys water polo destroys West Torrance

Mira Costa’s boys water polo team obliterated the West High School Warriors this Tuesday in a non conference game. Mira Costa had over 30 goals by the end of the game due to a lack of defensive aggressiveness from the West High Warriors.

The Mustangs jumped out to a 12-0 lead in the first quarter. Eventually, the Mustangs stopped keeping score, due to the increasing large margin, which was over 30 goals. Although the Mustangs won, junior attacker Mark Warneke thought that maintaining good sportsmanship was what this game was all about.

“Sometimes games can get out of hand like they did today, and the only thing you can do is just be a good sport about it,” Warneke said.

The Mustangs improved their overall record to 16-4, and are 5-0 in Bay League. They next play San Clemente this Saturday at San Clemente High School. According to junior attacker Garrett Weatherly it will be a good way to prepare for California Interscholastic Federation (CIF).

“San Clemente will be tough,” Weatherly said. “The game will be close, and it’ll be fun to see who comes out on top.”
