Mira Costa Seniors Maddy Silver and Sam Sturges were crowned Costa Homecoming king and queen on Friday during halftime of the Homecoming football game versus Inglewood High.

Silver was nominated by the Model United Nations program and Sturges was nominated by the Drama Department to be on Homecoming court. Throughout the week Silver and Sturges participated in the themed costume days with partners senior Cole Keefer and senior Pooja Nagpal.

“I just feel so lucky and humbled to have been on the Homecoming court in the first place,” Silver said. “I was so shocked when I first heard my name called but I couldn’t be more thankful for all that has happened this week and tonight.”

Seniors voted for Homecoming king and queen on Wed. during second period from the 8 boys and 8 girls that were elected to be on Homecoming court on Oct. 7. The ballots had additional information on each candidate under his or her name, including what organization nominated him or her and their various activities and accomplishments.
“It feels funny to be crowned as Homecoming King,” Sturges said. “I’m honored and surprised to say the least.”
