Pairs of doubles players on Mira Costa’s girls tennis team competed in a Bay League competition at the Jack Kramer Club on Thursday, with top performances by junior doubles partners Isabella and Katarina Draskovic and doubles partners freshman Lindsay Giese and junior Lena Nagy.
The Draskovics made it to the semifinals and won their first three games 8-2, 6-1 and 6-1. In the semifinals, they were eliminated and lost 6-1 and 6-0. Nagy and Giese won their first game 8-0, but were eliminated from the competition in the quarterfinals after losing 6-0 and 6-1, and according to Nagy the team posses a lot of skill.
“We played very well considering the tough competition,” Nagy said. “Our team was very proud that we made it to the semifinals, and the energy on the court was great.”
The Mustangs are currently 7-2 in Bay League and 19-4 overall. The team’s next match will be in the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) playoffs on Nov. 17 at the Claremont Club. According to Nagy, the team is in third place in Southern California and should dominate in CIF.
“Our team is very determined to play well in California Interscholastic Federation (CIF),” Nagy said. “We have progressed so much this season, and we can’t wait to shine in CIF.”
