Mira Costa’s girls volleyball team competed in the Tournament of Champions in Santa Barbara on Friday and Saturday, winning three games and losing one game, ending the tournament in 5th place overall with top performances from junior middle blocker Britt Bommer, junior middle blocker Amanda Montag, and senior setter Sam Snyder.
According to junior middle blocker Alexa Underwood, this was an exceptional tournament that showed off the team’s offense. The Mustangs played two games on Friday against St Francis, winning 3-0, and Archbishop Mitty, losing 3-1. On Saturday the team competed against Morningside, winning 3-1, and won against Westview 3-0.
“We played very consistently throughout the matches,” Bommer said. “There was great energy on the court all day, and the tournament was a great way to end the season.”
The Mustangs are now 26-5 overall and 7-2 in Bay League, and will take on their rival, Redondo, 26-2 overall, in a Bay League game at Redondo Union High School on Tuesday at 7 p.m. According to Underwood, the team plans to come out strong with solid serve receive.
“This game is extremely important to us because it determines whether we will share the Bay League title with Redondo or not,” Underwood said. “We’re pushing each other hard in practice as preparation for this match.”
