The countless hours of trying to find a quality brand of gear are over for the varsity boys golf and lacrosse.
During Aug. 2015, Mira Costa boys varsity golf confirmed a full sponsorship with Skechers and boys varsity lacrosse with Under Armour. The teams will receive new gear over the course of the year such as jerseys and shirts, which the team will be required to wear to school on game days. This is the first time either team has been fully sponsored.
“The jerseys we are getting this year look really nice and are the same kind that Boys Latin uses, which is the biggest lacrosse high school around,” senior lacrosse captain Hayden Frye said. “I definitely see the new gear making us play better because of the saying, look good play good.”
According to Costa boys lacrosse coach Aaron Karsh, the sponsorship will instill confidence in the team which will lead to an improvement in the players’ skills in and to winning more games.
“I think it’s great for our players to know they are using the top of the line gear,” Karsh said. “It gives them confidence knowing that we are one of the high profile programs with the best gear to match.”
In the beginning of the offseason, the lacrosse coach was informed by the department of Under Armour, that the team had been selected for a partnership with the company because of its high level reputation in the South Bay have.
“I love being sponsored by Under Armour,” senior John Van Sickle said. “The team as a whole is really excited because of all the great gear that we will be supplied this year.”
The boys golf team has landed a full sponsorship from the local shoe company, Skechers in october. The boys have already been given a new pair of shoes and will have clothing, such as shirts and polos, on the way.
“Having Skechers as a sponsor has been amazing so far because the gear is great and there is more to come,” senior Nick Harry said. “I especially love the new shoes that we all got, and I can’t wait to wear all of the rest of the gear the company is going to give us.”
According to Costa boys golf coach Tom Cox, Skechers has been a provider of the team for prior years with shirts and other gear. Beginning on Oct. 16, the team has agreed to a full partnership with the company where the team will be supported mainly with quality gear.
This is the first year that we have been full partners with Skechers and it’s been great,” Cox said. “It is very cool to see that the players have received quality new gear.”
According to junior Jack Raney, the sponsorship should have a positive effect on their season, as the new, quality gear that they will receive should help the team play better throughout the entire season because they will gain confidence by being supported by a great company.
“So far, it’s been really cool to be sponsored by such a well-known company,” Raney said. “We believe this should have a positive impact on our upcoming season because we will all have a little sense of confidence knowing that we are supported by a well-known company.”
