Guest speakers will speak at the annual TEDxManhattanBeach Conference at Manhattan Beach Middle School tomorrow at 9 a.m. to share their own life stories and advice.

TEDx is a branch of technology entertainment design and invites local members of the community to speak about their achievements and new ideas. This year, the conference’s theme is “What’s Next,” so the conference’s curators chose speakers based on who they believed were good representations on up and coming ideas and achievements, according to TEDx operations chair Tami Brothers.

“Selecting these speakers is a year-long process where the members go out into the community and find interesting people that would be willing to speak,” Brothers said. “We hope that these TED talks can foster new ideas for people to go out and make changes in the world.”

Mira Costa senior Pooja Nagpal will be one of the 12 speakers at this year’s conference. The Girl Scouts of Los Angeles nominated Nagpal to speak at TEDxManhattanBeach after she completed her Gold Award Project for Girl Scouts.

“I will mainly be speaking about the power of youth activism and how taking action often speaks louder than campaigns for equality,” Nagpal said. “I’m excited to inspire my peers to become passionate about a cause and do something about it.”

Students involved in the student program, Mayor’s Youth Council, will host their own small-scale conferences on Wednesday, Jan. 13 and April 13 during the afternoon office hours at Costa.

“Our main goal is to make sure the Costa population is included in such a cool event,” Costa junior and MYC member Sara Reynolds said. “There aren’t many events like this, and I would definitely encourage anyone to come.”
