Mira Costa’s girls volleyball defeated Los Alamitos 3-1 in its second California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) game on Thursday at Los Alamitos with top performances by junior outside hitter Amanda Montag.
The Mustangs fell short in the first set losing 25-23. However, Costa gathered its energy to dominate the second set 25-18. They continued the momentum into the final sets and won both 25-15 and 27-25. According to Montag, the team played the last three matches with all their fire and trust they had left.
“We stayed focus throughout the whole match and didn’t let the crowd get into our heads,” Montag said. “The first game we could’ve finished out a little stronger but we came back strong in the final three.”
The Mustangs, now 29-5 overall, move onto the next round of CIF on Saturday at 7 pm in Mater Dei. Montag says that this is round the team has lost the past two years.
“We have really focused on playing for each other and it has been going so well for us,” Montag says. “We are very excited for our shot at redemption and I have complete faith in everyone one of my teammates to get us farther in CIF.”
