Mira Costa’s girls basketball team was defeated by West Torrance, 48-38, in the Battle At The Beach Tournament at Redondo Union. The top performer, junior guard Allie Navarette, led the team with 17 points.
The Mustangs kept up with West for most of the first half. However, the Warriors were able to break their defense and obtain a comfortable lead in the fourth quarter. According to sophomore guard Haley Herdman, Costa committed a few too many fouls late in the game.
“We did really well on offense when we ran our plays, but we need to cut down on unnecessary fouls” Herdman said.
Costa plays its second game of the Battle At The Beach Tournament on Wednesday at 6:30 P.M. against Long Beach Poly.
“Before our next game, we will have to work on our help defense.” Herdman said.
