Costa’s girls basketball team was defeated by Long Beach Poly on Wednesday, 55-38, in the second round of Redondo Union’s Battle at the Beach Tournament, with a top performance from Junior forward Mia Finney, who accumulated more than ten rebounds.
Despite trailing the entire game, the Mustangs were able to keep the score close in the first half. However, the Jackrabbits went on a run in the fourth quarter, extending their lead by a comfortable margin. According to Finney, a contributing factor to Costa’s defeat was the team’s lack of quickness in transition.
“A lot of times we did not get back down the court fast enough, which caused our defense to really lag,” Finney said.
Costa will next play Corona Centennial High School at Redondo Union Thursday beginning at 6:30 P.M. This will be an important game for the Mustangs as they are currently 0-2. According to sophomore guard Haley Herdman, the team will prepare by watching film from previous games.
“To prepare for Corona Centennial, we are going to watch our game tape from yesterday’s loss to see what need to improve on,” Herdman said.
