The girls soccer team secured a home victory against Santa Monica on Wednesday 2-1 In the first match of the season. The Mustangs scored in the dying minutes of the game to prevail in the end.
During the game, Senior forward Michaila Franklin scored both of the Mustangs’ goals with the first goal in the first twenty minutes of the match and her second was a winner late into the second half. According to Franklin, Costa dominated the game, so there is no surprise they came out on top.
“I was really nervous today, and I didn’t know what to expect,” Franklin said. “I believe I did well for helping the team win its first game. Everyone showed their heart for soccer tonight and showed how badly they wanted to win.”
The win brought the Mustangs to an overall record of 1-0. The team’s next game is an away game on Friday at South Torrance High School. According to Franklin, the team played well last game especially with having a new team but they hope they can keep up the intensity that they had last game.
“Our first game was nerve wrecking for everyone, with having a new squad and a lot of girls filling in some big shoes from last year,” Franklin said. “Having said that, I think we definitely pulled it off and found quick chemistry with each other which will hopefully continue in games to come.”
