Mira Costa students underwent a school-wide evacuation today after an anonymous caller contacted a Costa staff member regarding a bomb threat at approximately 8 a.m. this morning.

Manhattan Beach Unified School District superintendent Michael Matthews said in a voicemail he released shortly after receiving the threat that in the call the anonymous person said that a bomb was located in a classroom. He sent the voicemail to all parents informing them of the situation.

Matthews stated that although the threats were extremely vague, he and other administrators plan to handle the threat seriously and follow any updates on the state of the investigation. Manhattan Beach Police Department is currently on campus investigating the source of the threat.

According to an email sent out by Costa Principal Dr. Ben Dale, the process should be complete by this afternoon. Matthews and Dale will continue to update staff, students and parents of the progress of the investigation.
