Mira Costa Wrestling finished in fourth place at West Torrance High School at a non-conference match-up on Saturday.
Costa came out strong, with sophomore Jared William placing in first and junior Joseph Gabele in second with many more coming in the top ten places in their weight groups. The team came out strong despite many wrestlers being injured. According to Gabele the team did well with many young wrestlers helping out.
“I just went in with the right mindset,” Gabele said. “I went in telling myself that I was going to win and when I pinned my first guy that just got the ball rolling for myself.”
Costa’s next match is against Master-Dei at Master-Dei High School on Saturday. According to Gabelet he keeps practicing to beat their opponents no matter the circumstance.
“In practice we just drill over and over again to the point where a move is just muscle memory so we can be prepared for our matches,” Gabele said. “We get to the point where you don’t even have to think about what you have to do it’s just second nature.”
