Mira Costa Principal Dr. Ben Dale decided to cancel school for all students after Costa administrators received the second threat of the week before 7 a.m. this morning.
Dale stated that the threat, sent by email, was specific in nature. Dale has not indicated if the email threat is related to the previous threat that was called into the front office secretary on Monday.
In addition to sending an email to Costa parents at 7 a.m., Dale notified students over the loudspeaker to leave the school campus immediately.
Costa administrators and personnel additionally blockaded all entrances into the school while Manhattan Beach Police Department officials arrived on campus to further investigate the source of the threat. District officials and Costa administrators will continue to communicate with MBPD as the investigation progresses.
Pennekamp Elementary School will also be closed for the day due to its close proximity to the Costa campus, Dale said in the email he sent to parents. He plans to notify parents and students with updates throughout the day via email.
