Mira Costa’s boys basketball team was defeated 55-42 by Santa Monica High School on Saturday at El Segundo High School in the El Segundo tournament. This was the team’s second straight loss.
Junior guard Brandon Chan posted a 13 point effort, along with one steal. The Mustangs struggled the entire game to penetrate a strong, physical Santa Monica defense. According to Chan, the offense struggled to create chances, but he took advantage of the opportunities he had.
“Tonight was tough,” Chan said. “We couldn’t really get anything going on offense consistently, but I tried my best to do what I could.”
Mira Costa is now 6-2 overall and will next play Torrance High School on Tuesday at El Segundo High School in the El Segundo Tournament. According to junior guard Ryan White, the team just needs to focus on the next game and not dwell on the past.
“All of our focus should be on the next game,” White said. “If we get caught up in losses like this, it won’t help at all.”
