The 24th annual “King Harbor Boat Parade” was hosted on Dec. 12 at King Harbor in Redondo Beach and included several boaters and stand up paddle boarders who competed for various prizes.
Denise Austin, a fitness trainer, was the grand marshal for the event that was themed “tropical holiday.” All of the proceeds from the boat parade went to one of three charities: the P.S. I Love You Foundation, the King Harbor Youth Foundation and Sea Scouts.
“I think that the boat parade was extremely impressive and that it was really interesting and a fun event for the holidays,” a boat parade attendee said. “It was very clear that all of the boaters put in a lot of work and there was a lot of holiday cheer.”
The boats could be seen from multiple different locations, some of which were the pier, the sea wall and The Portofino. The boats took off from the harbor and circled around the marina, three times, adorned with lights, decorations and music. Boaters won several prizes such as best costume, best lighting, best animation, best execution of theme, best in fleet and overall race winner.
“I’ve gone to this event before and personally I think that there should’ve been more boats this year since it wasn’t as interesting as before,” another boat parade attendee said. “My daughter still found it extremely exciting and she has been looking forward to it for a long time.”
