Government and Social Studies teacher Glenn Marx is now the new Athletic Advisor, replacing Vice Principal Jon Shaw as of the beginning of December.
The change was not planned to happen the way it did. The athletic department and administration thought it was a good time for a change and had teachers in mind to fill this position.
“Mira Costa has more than 30 extremely active varsity sports teams,” said Vice Principal and former Athletic Director Jon Shaw. “And a school with such a rich athletic tradition needs an athletic director”.
The switch of Athletic Directors will change the athletic department and bring new ideas according to Shaw.
“Mr Marx will bring a wealth of experience and knowledge as well as a vision that is going to help our student athletes, coaches, and programs in general,” said Shaw. “He will also help the athletic department develop and succeed in many ways throughout all sports teams.”
The selection of the new Athletic Directors was thought out with administration and according to Shaw the administration wanted someone who would be helpful and happy in the position.
“Mr. Marx has been at Costa for a long time and he wants to have a greater impact with our students and the community and the school in general,” said Shaw. “We welcome him to the position of Athletic Director.”
