Mira Costa’s girls soccer team defeated Bishop Montgomery High School 3-1 in a home game on Monday. After falling behind 1-0 in the first half, the Mustangs were able to fight back and score 3 goals to win.
Junior Emilie Flaig scored late in the first half to tie the game, but junior Delaney Whittet scored the last two in order to secure their win. According to Whittet, it wasn’t the team’s best performance, but the Mustangs were able to finish their chances and come out on top.
“Even though I struggled to connect my passes, and as a team we were all a little off today, not playing like usual, I managed to put the ball away when it was critical,” Whittet said. “I’m glad I scored but I wouldn’t have been able to do so without my teammates hard work to get the ball up the field.”
The Mustangs improved their overall record to 8-2 with Monday’s win. Now they prepare for Thursday’s away game against El Segundo High School, a team they suffered an unfortunate loss to the team in their last appearance in penalty kicks. According to Flaig, the Mustangs are going to be playing even harder to redeem themselves.
“We hope to come out strong with our upcoming game against El Segundo,” Flaig said. “Unfortunately, they beat us in penalty kicks last time we played them so we are really hoping to take the upper hand in this game.
