Mira Costa’s girls water polo team defeated Palos Verdes High School 6-5 in a Bay League game on Tuesday at home, with top performances by senior utility Kaylee Brownsberger and junior attacker Aminadi Anorve.
The Mustangs were neck and neck in the first half 4-4 due to simple mistakes during the game. By the second half, Costa was back in its stride and one last minute goal by Brownsberger led the team to victory. According to Anorve, the team didn’t perform to the best of its abilities.
“We didn’t come out as strong as we should have during the first half of the game,” Anorve said. “I was proud that we pulled ahead, but the game should have never been that close.”
The Mustangs are currently 1-0 in Bay League and 6-5 overall. The team will face off against West Torrance High School in its next game on Jan. 13 at home. According to senior utility Marisa Catella, she believes the team should do well in its next game.
“Our morning practices will really help us improve our game,” Catella said. “I am confident in our team and with the extra practice, we can be victorious.”
