Mira Costa’s boys basketball was defeated by Chaminade High School, 49-46, on Friday in a non-conference away game. Although the Mustangs finished short, they showcased a strong will to win against a talented opponent like Chaminade who had the height advantage.
Junior guard Ryan White put up 11 points with 3 rebounds, an assist, and a steal. White’s effort proved to nearly give the Mustangs the victory, but a big second half from Chaminade ended Costa’s hopes. According to White, he was able to take advantage of his opportunities.
“We knew Chaminade would be a tough game, so we tried our best to capitalize on every chance,” White said.
The Mustangs are now 6-4 overall and will next play Roosevelt High School in the Torrey Pines Tournament on Dec. 26. According to sophomore guard Bobby Barkley, the team will look to regain some of its earlier momentum of the season.
“Lately we have been a little off track,” Barkley said. “Right now we just have to focus on getting back into the mindset of playing and winning as a team.”
