Mira Costa boys basketball defeated McQueen High School 77-52 in the Torrey Pines Holiday Classic in Torrey Pines on Monday. Although McQueen is the 13th ranked team in Nevada according to Maxpreps.com, the Mustangs were able to execute intricate passing and play tight enough defense to win.
Sophomore point guard Bobby Barkley stole the show with 23 points, three assists and five steals, putting up his best performance thus far. According to Barkley he felt a smooth rhythm to his play style, making his game easy.
“For some reason I was easily able to evade defenders and make plays at the basket,” Barkley said. “It felt to me like I was just making routine plays.”
Mira Costa is now 8-5 and will next take on La Costa Canyon High School in the Torrey Pines Holiday Classic in Torrey Pines. According to junior guard Ryan White he hopes the team is able to continue their streak and improve upon each game.
“We are playing well right now ,” White said. “We just need to keep the momentum up and maintain composure.”
