Mira Costa’s girls water polo team defeated West Torrance High School 11-2 in a Bay League game on Wednesday at home, with top performances by seniors utility Kaylee Brownsberger and attacker Yen Nguyen.
The Mustangs jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter 5-0 due to solid offense. In the second half, Costa continued to dominate, and multiple goals by both Brownsberger and Nguyen led the team to victory. According to Brownsberger, the match was a success.
“As a team, the game went very well, and we made sure we played to the best of our abilities,” Brownsberger said. “We set up our counter attacks well, and we had a lot of energy in the pool.”
The Mustangs are currently 2-0 in Bay League and 7-5 overall. The team will face off against Santa Monica in its next game on Friday at Santa Monica High School. According to Brownsberger, the team is full of skill and should do well in its next match.
“If we continue to work on our counter attacks we should end up victorious,” Brownsberger said. “We will have to keep up in practices, but if we give it our all, I am confident in our abilities.”
