The Mira Costa girls soccer team took on the Palos Verdes High School Sea Kings at home in its first Bay League match of the season on Tuesday where Costa suffered a 0-1 loss. Late into the second half, the Mustangs fell behind and couldn’t recover.
Despite the Mustang’s loss, senior midfielder Kendal Douglass helped the team dominate the game by completing high percentage passes along with creating scoring opportunities. According to Douglass, the team dominated the game but couldn’t find the right time to score a goal.
“They team was very physical and didn’t give us much time on the ball, so it took us a little time to adjust and find a rhythm,” Douglass said. “ It took a lot of communication on our part to really get things going, but overall we definitely put up a fight.”
The team has a Bay League record of 0-1 and an overall record of 9-3. They play Peninsula in an away match on Friday. According to Douglass, the team cannot afford to lose two games this early in the season so they will do all they can to come away from Friday’s game with a win.
“I’m hoping the thought of us going 0-2 in bay league will motivate the rest of the team to do anything we can to avoid another loss,” Douglass said. “We’re going to discuss this game against PV to recognize the things that need improvement so that we can redeem ourselves this Friday.”
