The Mira Costa girls soccer team took on Peninsula High School in an away match on Friday. The Mustangs defeated the Panthers 3-0 in the team’s second Bay League match of the season.

First half goals from junior Caroline Keever and junior Emiele Flaig gave the Mustangs a 2-0 break at the half. Junior Viviana Villacorte scored a securing goal late into the second half to end the game. According to Villacorte, Costa dominated the game by keeping possession and finishing its chances towards goal.

“Our transition from defense to offense, allowed for counterattacks and contributed to our forwards creating lots of opportunities to score goals,” Villacorte said. “We performed well for each other and got the result we wanted.”

The Mustangs are currently 1-1 in Bay League and 10-3 overall. The team’s next match is against Inglewood High School on Tuesday. According to Villacorte, if the team plays the way they did on Friday, it should have no problem winning.

“Our team chemistry has been very strong this year and that should be a big factor of the outcome of our game against Inglewood,” Villacorte said. “As long as we play well, we have a good chance at winning.”
