Mira Costa’s boys basketball team defeated Peninsula High School on Friday 49-48.  The score was nearly even after every quarter and both teams looked evenly matched throughout the course of the game.

Sophomore guard Bobby Barkley had nine points and senior guard Johnny Mims had five rebounds, six assists, and a steal.  According to Barkley it was hard to get out and maintain a lead early on.

“We had some difficulties consistently scoring,” Barkley said.  “What matters is that we made the most of our opportunities and ended up winning.”

The Mustangs are now 12-7 overall and 2-0 in Bay League and will next play Inglewood High School on Tuesday night.  According to junior guard Ryan White, the team will have to do its best to defend against a team that most likely has the advantage in height and speed.

“They have a lot of talented players and a lot of them are quite big,” White said.  “It’s going to be tough to physically outplay them.”
