Mira Costa’s girls basketball team defeated Peninsula High School 64-28 Friday in its second game of Bay League play. The team was helped by a standout performance from junior guard Allie Navarette who led the team with 14 points.
Costa comfortably led the Panthers right from the start of the game. After halftime, the Mustangs continued to expand their lead. By the fourth quarter, they were more than 30 points ahead.
“We really played well together,” sophomore guard Haley Herdman said. “Peninsula did not have much height, so we got some really good
looks down low.”
The Mustangs, now 2-0 in Bay league and 10-5 overall, will take on Millikan High School in a non-conference game next Monday. According to Herdman, the team will need to improve its press in order to be successful.
“We need to just keep working on our rotations and our press to get more easy steals and baskets,” Herdman said.
