Throughout Mira Costa’s water polo history, there have been many high-level players, but one player has stood out as the centerpiece to the success of this year’s program.
For the second year in a row, Jake Miller-Tolt has earned Daily Breeze Player of the Year.
“It’s an honor to win this award, and it feels incredible to be able to leave on such a high note,” Miller-Tolt said.
Miller-Tolt was competing against multiple other players from the South Bay area, such as Duncan MacTavish and David Feingold of Palos Verdes High School, for the award. The vote was then decided by select Bay League and Pioneer League coaches from the area. They unanimously decided that Miller-Tolt was most deserving out of all the candidates.
“Thanks to the support of my teammates and friends, I was able to have a good end to my water polo career at Mira Costa,” Miller-Tolt said.
Miller-Tolt scored over 100 goals in the last two seasons and delivered over 50 assists.
“Jake was a great leader as well as a student-athlete,” water polo coach Jon Reichardt said. “He has a great work ethic and is well respected by his peers as well as all of the other players on the team.”
The journey doesn’t end here for Miller-Tolt, as his skills in the water have earned him a spot on the water polo team at Fordham University in New York City.
“I’m very excited to get a chance to play at such a high-level school like Fordham University,” Miller-Tolt said. “Mira Costa has done a great job of preparing me for my future, not only in sports but in academics as well.”
