Currently ranked third in the nation for girls’ golf, senior Andrea Lee has plenty to be proud of, including The Daily Breeze Player of the Year.
This season, Lee lead the Mustangs to their first ever California Interscholastic Federation state championship. Because of her exceptional performance, Lee was named the 2015 Daily Breeze Player of the Year.
“Winning both state and this award is such an incredible and rewarding feeling,” Lee said. “All the hard work I have put in has paid off.”
Lee began her golf journey more than 12 years ago. She was only five when her father introduced her to the sport. During her junior year, she was ranked the number-one junior golfer in the country. When she started to play, Lee was ranked number 10 overall in the American Junior Golf Assocoiation.
“I love competing and seeing myself improve,” Lee said. “ Golf allows me to make many friends and travel all over the world.”
Lee contibuted a number of outstanding performances in the games leading up to the state final where she shot a 73, putting her in sixth place individually, according to coach Tom Cox.
“There are definitely a lot of ups and downs that come with golf,” Lee said. “But what keeps me working hard is my desire to be the best that I can be.”
Lee has been able to place highly in a number of notable tournaments. Lee placed 69th in the United States Women’s Open, first in the Rolex Tournament of Champions and as a semi- finalist in the Unites States Women’s Amateur Championship.
“My journey here at Costa has been a long ride,” Lee said. “I am very thankful that I have had teachers who help me make up the work when I am absent.”
At the end of the school year, Lee will be given her Daily Breeze award at the SoCal Prep Legends Award Show. This ceremony aims to honor athletes and teams in Southern California who have played at a high level in their respective sports.
“Andrea is an impressive individual,” Cox said. “She is very dedicated to everything that she puts her mind to.”
After her graduation in June, Lee will be headed to Palo Alto to continue her golf career at Stanford University. Lee hopes to take her game a step further, and her sights are set on playing in the Ladies Professional Golf Association, Lee said.
“My ultimate goal is to play golf professionally because it has been my dream since I began playing,” Lee said. “I really want to push myself to be the best player that I can be.”
