Mira Costa’s rugby team defeated St. John Bosco 45-26 at home on Friday. The Mustangs’ forward pack was much lighter than Bosco’s, but speed prevailed, and Costa was on the offensive nearly the whole game.
Scrum half junior Harrison Dulgarian did a quick tap, diving into the try zone for the first try of the game. Flanker junior David Arredondo converted the try, making it a 7-0 lead. The first half ended with a dominating lead of 24-5. The Mustangs’ last try was completed by sophomore wing Kaden Loversky from 27 meters out.
“It was a huge win for us and meant a lot to everyone on our team,” junior Jake Kirst said. “It’s a great way to end the season and enter the playoffs.”
Costa is currently 4-0 in Bay League. Its next match will be on Friday Feb. 5 at home for the first round of the playoffs. Costa will most likely play Alta Vista or Rancho Bernardo from San Diego.
“We hope to execute due to the fact that it will be our first playoff game, and we really want to win,” senior Greg Boras said.
