Mira Costa’s boys basketball team was defeated 70-66 by Morningside High School in an away game on Friday.  The Mustangs were unable to get a majority of offensive or defensive rebounds which resulted in less opportunities to score.

Senior guard Johnny Mims scored 20 points but the rest of the team was being dominated on the rebounds the entire game.  According to Mims he felt confident while playing but the team couldn’t put it together in the end.

“I felt solid driving to the basket, but there were a few opportunities we just didn’t take advantage of,” Mims said.

Costa is now 12-9 overall and 2-2 in Bay League.  The team will next play against longtime rival Redondo Union High School who is ranked third in the state in an away game on Tuesday.  According to junior guard Ryan White this will be a good test of the team’s true ability.

“Tuesday’s game will be one of the toughest thus far,” White said.  “It will tell us how good of a team we really are.”
