Mira Costa’s girls water polo team defeated Palos Verdes 11-4 in its fifth Bay League game of the season on Tuesday at Palos Verdes High School, with top performances by seniors utility Kaylee Brownsberger and attacker Yen Nguyen.
The Mustangs started out slowly and were losing 3-2 in the first quarter due to a lack of communication. In the next three quarters, Costa stepped up its game and with three goals by Brownsberger and good communication by Nguyen, Costa won the game. According to Nguyen, the team has really stepped up its game.
“We lacked in the first quarter, but we had such a strong comeback in the next three quarters,” Nguyen said. “This game went really well, and it shows how much we have improved this season.”
The Mustangs are currently 4-1 in Bay League and are 12-9 overall. The team’s next game is a non-conference game against West Torrance at the West Torrance Plunge on Wednesday. According to Nguyen, the team has a lot of potential and should perform well.
“We have improved so much this season and each game just gets even better,” Nguyen said. “I am proud of where we have gotten, and I think things can only go uphill.”
