Mira Costa girl’s soccer team fell to rival Redondo 1-0 at home on Tuesday in Bay League. Redondo scored its goal early into the second half, with the Mustangs unable to find their tying goal.
Despite the Mustang’s loss, junior midfielder Viviana Villacorte was able to connect many of her passes in the middle of the field while advancing the ball towards the goal which led to scoring opportunities. According to Villacorte, the Mustangs fought hard but were unable to finish their chances.
“I feel that our team stepped up our game, but the ball didn’t want to bounce our way in the offensive half of the field,” Villacorte said. “Redondo always plays their toughest against us which gives us the motivation to play even harder.”
The Mustangs are now 3-2 in Bay League and 12-4 overall. The team’s next match is away against the Palos Verdes Sea Kings on Friday in for the second time this season. According to Villacorte, the team hopes to play the way they did Tuesday as long as they can finish their scoring opportunities.
“In our game against Palos Verdes, we are planning to be more focused and aggressive,” Villacorte said. “As long as we do those two things, we should be able to execute scoring chances in the offensive third of the field.”
