Mira Costa’s boys basketball team was defeated 81-46 at home by Redondo Union High School on Saturday in a Bay League game. Redondo’s full court press overmatched Costa in the second half which led to the large deficit.
Senior guard Johnny Mims scored 11 points, had three rebounds, three assists and a steal and junior guard Ryan White added nine points. Redondo was consistently nailing threes and dominating the fast break throughout the game. According to Mims he did as much as he could against a very good defense.
“Redondo has a lot of tall and athletic guys and they are one of the best teams around,” Mims said. “I did what I could with what I had.”
The Mustangs are now 14-12 overall and 4-5 in Bay League. They will finish up their Bay League season on Tuesday as they face Morningside High School in a home game. According to sophomore guard Bobby Barkley the team hopes to finish the season on a high note heading into California Interscholastic Federation (CIF).
“We hope to give our best effort in our last league game,” Barkley said. “Morningside is a good team and we will need to stick to our plan to win.”
