Mira Costa’s girls water polo defeated Peninsula High School 4-2 in a Bay League game at home on Monday, with top performances by senior utility Kaylee Brownsberger and junior attacker Aminadi Anorve.

The Mustangs were neck and neck with Peninsula in the first half, 2-2. In the second half, no points were scored leading the game into overtime. Both Anorve and Brownsberger scored a goal, ending the game at 4-2. According to Anorve, Peninsula was tough competition.

“We had trouble with defense and scoring in the first half, but we pulled through,” Anorve said. “Once the team went into overtime we were determined to win and we persevered until the match was over.”

The Mustangs are currently 5-1 in Bay League and 16-11 overall. The team’s next game is a Bay League game against rival Redondo Union at Redondo Union High School on Wednesday. According to Nguyen, the team has practiced a lot in preparation for the match.

“Redondo is one of our biggest rivals, so we are excited to play them,” Nguyen said. “The season is coming to a close, and we hope to end it with a win.”
