Mira Costa’s girls soccer team lost 2-1 to the Redondo Union Sea Hawks in an away game on Thursday, which was the last game in Bay League before CIF playoffs.

After falling behind 1-0 early in the first half, junior Viviana Villacorte scored to tie the game before halftime, but were unable to recover from Redondo’s second goal. According to Villacorte, the Mustangs played well but came up unlucky on a few of their scoring chances.

“The whole team played very hard with a lot of intensity the whole game,” Villacorte said. “We just got unlucky a few times where the ball wouldn’t bounce our way in front of their goal.”

The Mustangs finished with a record of 6-1-3 in Bay League and third place along with a spot in CIF. The team’s next opponent is still undetermined but they will play their first round game away on Thursday. According to Villacorte, the team hopes that their luck can change for the better in hope to go far in CIF.

“I hope that by the time CIF comes our luck will have changed a little,” Villacorte said. “We have come up unlucky in our past few games so we hope to play well so we can stay alive as long as possible in the playoffs.
