Costa’s wrestling team sent 10 wrestlers to compete in the CIF Southern Section finals at Grand Terrace Hills on Feb. 19 and 20.
Junior Jean Paul Le-Bosnoyani was the only wrestler who placed, placing third in the 170-pound weight class. Today, Le-Bosnoyani will be going to the Masters Tournament in Bakersfield where he will face the top 32 wrestlers in his weight class.
“John has a really good chance of getting through the tournament,” coach Jimmy Chaney said. “In his CIF match, he went through and got third after beating the wrestler who defeated him ealier in the tournament.”
Senior Niilo Niemi, freshman Jacob Gordon, and sophomore Luca Mangiarano all won their first two matches of the tournament. However, they all fell in the third round and were eliminated.
“For my third match, I lost to the number-three seed who would end up winning it all,” Niemi said. “I had an unlucky seeding.”
Sophomore Jamie Krigsman, freshman Tyler Gordon and senior Alex Chaney all won their first match but soon lost in the following round
“I just got into some bad situations and wasn’t able to convert on opportunities,” Chaney said.
Costa finished the season 10-2 overall while going undefeated with a record of 4-0 in Bay League earlier in the season.
“I’m very happy with the boys and could not be more proud.”
