All Costa students voted during second period on January 20 on what values should be incorporated in a Costa character building program.
“It’s an overall character building program that the Staff and students will work together on. We are calling them core values,” said Franca Stadvec, a Costa parent involved in the core values project. “Students voted and they will be revealed at the first character assembly on March 9.”
Character Lab, a company that believes that strong character should be a major part of every school, worked with Manhattan Beach Middle School in 2014, the program is meant to upgrade the overall attitude and promote collaboration between staff and students.
“Many studies show that a character program on campus helps with the overall health and well being of the students,” Stadvec said. “We hope the staff and students will work together to bring a more united, spirited culture to Mira Costa.”
With the addition of the core values to the school, the founders hope there will be a new sense of unity within the student population and even including staff. This will most likely add much more school spirit and higher morale at Costa.
“The program will hopefully bring a more positive, spirited atmosphere to the campus,” Stadvec said. “We hope to create this culture of ‘Team Costa.’ Staff and students will endeavor to ‘be excellent’ and follow the core values!”
