Mira Costa’s girls basketball team defeated Burroughs High School 47-39 Saturday at home to advance to the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) finals. Junior forward Allie Navarette lead the team scoring 25 points.
The Mustangs held a narrow lead after the first quarter and were almost outmatched in the second. At halftime, the score was 26-23 of Costa. The Mustangs lost their lead a few times in the second half, but were eventually able to hold on for a victory.
“We all hustled really well the entire game,” junior forward Mia Finney said. “I think our solid defense also helped contribute to this win.”
The 22-8 Mustangs will take on Crescenta Valley High School Friday in the CIF finals at the Honda Center in Los Angeles at 7 P.M.. According the Finney, Costa will continue to work on its offense in order to prepare for this big game.
“To prepare for the finals, we are going to tighten our offensive plays and keep working on our press,” Finney said.
