Mira Costa’s boys lacrosse defeated Crespi High School 7-5 at home on Thursday in a non-conference game. Senior goalie John Van Sickle was a key player who made over 16 saves and was in command of the defense throughout the game.
The game started off as a low scoring game with both goalies blocking many shots. As the game went on, Costa’s offense started to get more comfortable. In the third quarter, Costa eventually established a two point lead that the defense held until the end of the game. According to senior defender Jack Gibbons, The Mustangs were able to hold on to the ball and make the most of their possessions.
“Everyone seemed to be on the same page today and if we keep it up we have potential to go far in CIF,” Gibbons said.
Costa, now 1-1 overall, will next play against Newport Harbor at home on Wednesday. According to Gibbons, it should be a close game.
“Last year it was a very close game, but our team has matured a lot since last year,” Gibbons said. “It should be a good game.”
