Mira Costa’s girls lacrosse defeated Westlake High School 5-3 in a nonconference match on Wednesday at Westlake, with top performances by senior captain Kayla Sugimoto and sophomore Charlie Manley.
The Mustangs started with two goals scored by Sugimoto and Manley in the first half. In the second half both seniors scored again along with junior Maggie Heatherton. According to Sugimoto, the team did well but still have more to work on.
“It was a good start to the season,” Sugimoto said. “we still have some things that we need to work on overall but I’m very happy with the win.”
The Mustangs are currently 1-0 overall. The team’s next game is against Chaminade High School at Chaminade on Friday. According to senior captain Ally Keasler, the team has started the season off well.
“The game for us was a great way to start off and laid out what we want for the rest of the season,” Keasler said.
