Mira Costa’s boys tennis defeated Loyola 12-6 at Mira Costa on Tuesday in a non-conference match, with top performances by senior singles player Alex Gaal and doubles players senior Jeremy Chung and freshman Kyle Sillman.
In doubles, Chung and Sillman kept a solid defense throughout their sets, winning 7-5 and 6-1. Gaal kept up the pace throughout his sets and crushed the Cubs, winning 6-3 and 6-0. According to Sillman, good teamwork was prevalent in the match.
“We played a great match because everything was flowing,” said Sillman. “We played more as a team than usual, which helped us a lot.”
Costa is now 1-0 overall. The team’s next match will be on Wednesday at Los Alamitos High School. According to Gaal, this match gave Costa high hopes for Wednesday.
“Loyola played well, but we came out really strong in the first round,” said Gaal. “We are still trying out some new lineups but our win today gives us a lot of confidence for tomorrow and the rest of the season.”
