Mira Costa’s baseball team defeated Mary Sea of the Star High School on Friday 8-1 and South Torrance High School 2-1 with a walk off single in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Mustangs the victory in their second game.
In the first game, senior pitcher Trevor Franklin had three hits and two runs batted in (RBI’s) in contribution to their 8-1 victory. In the second game, the Mustangs won off of a walk off single by pinch hitter, freshman Merrick Baldo. According to Franklin the team played well on both sides of the field which contributed to their win.
“We played great this weekend,” Franklin said. “We had a great pitching staff this weekend with some clutch hitting in times we needed it most.”
The Mustangs, now 3-1 overall in their preseason, will next play Mayfair High School in the El Segundo tournament on Tuesday. According to Franklin, if the team keeps performing as they have been, they will continue winning.
“As a team we are still growing and trying to get better every day,” Franklin said. “Our team chemistry is fantastic and I believe we will have a very successful team and if we all continue to play like we have been, we shouldn’t have any problem winning our next game.”
