Mira Costa’s boys volleyball team defeated Santa Barbara High School in three sets in a non conference game in the Mustangs’ season opener at home on Friday night. They won the first set 25-16, the second 25-17, and the third 25-17.
Senior outside hitter Roy McFarland and senior opposite Jackson Wedbush led the way for the Mustangs. McFarlane had 16 kills and seven digs while Wedbush had 12 kills and three digs. According to junior outside hitter Kevin Pinkerton, both set themselves up for good scoring opportunities.
“Roy and Jackson both set up really well and got in positions where they could easily attack from”, Pinkerton said.
Costa is now 1-0 overall and will next play on Friday in the Best of the West Tournament in Poway. According to junior libero Will Taylor, it was great to start with a win and the team will look to continue its success in its next games.
“The Best in the West Tournament is competitive,” Taylor said. “It’s a good chance for us to play against solid teams.”
